Why the doctor is not prescribing me medicine for bleeding during pregnancy?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I keep on bleeding during the pregnancy. Is there any infection that I could be having?

I already went to the doctor and he just gave me the medication for vomiting and the bleeding has not stopped.

I am worried about the baby.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I want to know your last menstruation date so that I can know your period of pregnancy.

However, it is not good that you keep on bleeding during the pregnancy, which is very rare. We have to exclude many complications like:

1. Low attached placenta - The placenta remains low in the womb, near to or covering the cervical opening. You may bleed on straining and movements. In this case, you will have to take extreme care and you will have to be on bed rest.

2. Some other placental abnormalities.

3. Hormonal insufficiency - Less progesterone hormone secreted by the placenta, in which case you will have to get regular hormonal injections.

Did you go for any investigations like an ultrasound during the pregnancy?

It will help to detect if there is any problem like retro placental clots, etc.?

Please try to get a USG (ultrasonography) done.

For the time being you take some bed rest and see if the bleeding decreases or not.

Take care.
