Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I wanted to ask about the chance of pregnancy with dry sperm. Around two and a half weeks ago, I had oral sex with my partner, and there was no genital contact. The sperm was on my hand, which I wiped with a tissue, and then the rest dried on my hand. After five minutes, I touched my vagina with the hand that the dry sperm was on.
I tend to stress a lot about this, and I just wanted to confirm if that can cause pregnancy. I am supposed to get my period in about three days, and the only symptoms I have are nipple and side-breast pain. Usually, my breasts feel tender before my period, but now they are not as tender as they usually are. Could you please give me your opinion on this?
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Thanks for writing in, and I understand your concern. In my opinion, for getting pregnant, the sperm have to be released inside the vagina of the female. These sperms then need to fertilize an egg, which may or may not be available depending upon the ovulation pattern of the female.
The fertilized egg is then required to be implanted in the female's uterus. When all this happens successfully, a female is said to have conceived or been pregnant. There was no immediate release of eggs in the vagina in your case. Further, the sperms survive for a few seconds to a maximum of five minutes in the open, owing to conditions existing outside in a relaxed environment. So sperm in your hands would have died and would have been too immobile to swim across and fertilize an egg.
Please share your period details for my better assessment. Till then, according to the details shared by you, there is nothing to worry about.
Regards.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for your response.
This helped in resolving my anxiety. My period cycle has always lasted between 29 to 32 days. However, my cycles are pretty regular. I will start my period in the first week of this month. As mentioned earlier, my only concern is my symptoms. My nipples feel uncomfortable, as if they are pressed, and I have slight breast pain on the sides, which extends to my underarm, which was a similar symptom last month.
However, there is no breast tenderness, which I usually get 6 to 11 days before my period. They are not tender now, and I am three days late for my period, which worries me about pregnancy. I also have slight back pain, which usually happens to me before my period, along with bloating. Would you please give me your opinion on this?
Regards.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Stress is a significant cause of delayed periods in females worldwide, and if you remain stressed out like this, it will only lead to a delay in periods. As you had mentioned earlier, it is only in the past three months that you have had a cycle of 29 to 32 days.
You need not worry about it. And based upon the details shared by you, I again reassure you that there is no possibility of pregnancy. As far as periods are concerned, we can say that anything from 21 to 40 days is acceptable, and there is no need to stress about it anymore.
Regards.
