Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a male taking PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) for two months. However, I would like to stop taking it. How long should I continue taking PrEP after my last possible exposure? Please help.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Recommendations are given below:

1. If a person is in a monogamous relationship with an HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) partner who has HIV viral load suppressed, and the condom is being used consistently and correctly, PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) will continue for 28 days after the last exposure.

2. Another recommendation for men who have sex with men is to continue it for seven to 10 days after the last exposure.

It would be helpful to have information about the last exposure to categorize it as substantial exposure or not.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
