Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have recently been prescribed Propranolol (20 mg every 12 hours) for essential tremors, and I have not really seen an improvement in my tremors. I have been taking it for exactly a week, is it supposed to build up in your system to start working, or do I need a higher dose?

Answered by Dr. Ashok Kumar

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. The treatment of essential tremors depends on the difficulty caused to the individual. The effective dose of Propranolol for essential tremors ranges between 60 to 320 mg per day, and I think it will be premature to state. If you are not showing a positive response by this date, there may be a need for a higher dose, provided there are no intolerable side effects.

I hope this helps you.

Regards.
