Is it safe to take injections for itchy skin in pregnancy?

Hi doctor,

I have red bumps on hands, lower back and legs. It is also itching a lot. In some body portion blood patches had happened due to itching. For this itching Estrogen, LCZ and Lobate are used as current medication, but no use. I am going for liver function test as soon as possible. Are injections safe to use during pregnancy for severe skin itchiness? Please help me.

I have gone through the pictures (attachment removed to protect patient identity). These are looking like PUPP-Pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancyor it can be AEP - the atopic eruption of pregnancy. In both cases, the treatment is the same and there is no risk to the fetus. These are allergic reactions due to so many chemical and hormonal changes in pregnancy. Being a dermatologist, I consider it a normal thing. I would not suggest any medicines for it because once delivery is done, this problem also goes off. For the treatment, I suggest you the safest medicine during pregnancy is tablet Polaramine 6 mg (Dexchlorpheniramine) two to four times in a day if the itching is too much. Use potent steroid cream like Clonate lotion (Clobetasol Propionate) mixed with Dermadew Aloe lotion both mixed in 50% - 50% and apply it over lesions for 15 days. You can take an injection Avil (Pheniramine) once in a day as it is safe but try to avoid because medicine it can give you relief. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and take the medicine with their consent. I would not advise you to have LCZ (Levocetirizine). Although, it is a safe medicine, we already have more potential and more safest medicine for itching (Polaramine).
