Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My boyfriend has been suffering from irrational thoughts for the past year or so. He has already consulted a doctor, but he says he hears voices like "the pills has been distributed." He told his friends he had a headache and asked for Paracetamol, but they have given him two pills which have caused him to behave in such a manner. He is telling me that he hears voices and people are talking to him. Kindly help me.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your friend definitely needs medications. The symptoms which you mentioned are psychotic symptoms. Hearing voices unheard by others are all part of it. He might be reluctant to take medication, and he would have many reasons for that. So make him take medications. And need some more elaboration of his symptoms. How dose he talk and perform other activities? Does he appear hyperactive and talkative? Does he have good sleep and appetite?

Please answer the questions so that I can guide you accordingly.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you.

He said that he has not slept for the last three to four days, and he knows that he will be fine if he sleeps. Do you know if there are any sleeping pills which he can purchase over-the-counter? He ate now. He says that when he closes his eyes, he sees things, and there is a voice talking to him and reminding him of the difficult times he had last year. He seems quite talkative, but I try to divert his mind. Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You will not get any sleeping pills without a prescription. The medicines he takes now are sedatives, which means he can get sleep with that also. Have you consulted a psychiatrist yet? Are you getting prescribed from a general physician? It is always better to have an expert consultation. Now regarding the illness, he might need proper medication in the appropriate dose. And he might need to take it regularly for few days. If his condition is not medicated correctly, there is a chance of worsening of his symptoms and the possibility of agitation and aggression. So the point which I am emphasizing is the need for proper medication. Moreover, in the coming days, there is a possibility of him muttering and smiling to himself and might express suspiciousness towards anybody. So please get a proper consultation and get him treated. Meanwhile, check his thyroid functions too. I hope this was helpful.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
