Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My query is about pterygium. I first noticed redness in my eye, but it has subsided since this morning. Now I only see a few small veins and a slight yellowish color. My GP has advised me to leave it for a couple of weeks to see if it disappears.
Please advise if this may be the case.
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
From what you have described, I feel that you may have had an inflamed pterygium whose inflammation is now reducing with treatment. Pterygium tissue will not dissolve on its own and needs surgery to remove.
Although it is possible to slow its growth by lubricants and avoiding sunlight exposure to some extent. The decision to operate on a pterygium depends on a variety of factors including the type of pterygium (progressive or not), the size of the tissue and your vision along with the condition of both your eyes. All operating surgeons also know that there is a small chance of the pterygium recurring after surgery.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
