Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am a 23 year old female who is 5' 1" in height and weighing 134 pounds. As soon as I take a shower, I get red itchy patches on my face, arms, neck, breast, and back which go away in some time. Even at night, when I wash my face before sleeping, my face becomes red and itchy. I have been facing this issue for a couple of months now. Also, I am not under any medications. Kindly suggest a solution to my problem.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I went through your query and understood your concern. You have urticaria according to your history and the image you shared (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). The presence of red itchy hives or lines that appear following a shower is dermographism urticaria which may appear when you lightly stroke your arms with a blunt tip object. It may stay for a few minutes to a few hours and then subside. For some individuals, the rashes may appear due to stress, after a workout, and due to changes in the temperature. It is a hypersensitivity reaction, meaning your body is more sensitive than usual to the temperature changes following showers, and may also cause reactions to insect bites. There is nothing to worry about as there are medications to treat them. The medications can be taken for up to a month and then may be stopped. But since it may appear with showers or changes in temperature later in life, the same medication can be used in the future. For some people, it may eventually stop occurring. But others may experience skin rashes on and off. However, it is not contagious and will always reduce in a few hours. However, I suggest you to take Fexofenadine (antihistamine) 120 mg and Montelukast 10 mg, one tablet at night after dinner or one hour before sleep. Use these medication for one month. Consult with a specialist, talk to them and take the medication with their consent. I hope this has helped you.
