How to talk to a brother who stopped after an argument?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My brother refuses to talk to any of the family members after a difference of opinion about a car that he wants. He has gone so far as to say that the family refuses to let him grow as a person, whereas that is not the case. I, as his sister, have tried to get him to share his feelings, but he just refuses to talk. How can I get him to at least talk about how he feels because I think he may be depressed? All this was triggered by an argument in the family. However, he has been showing symptoms such as lethargy and sudden mood swings for the last few months.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The best way at present would be to text him your concerns, explanation, and your opinion so that he reads and gets time to think it over. After texting, at last, quote that you all are concerned about him and would like to have a chat. The one among the family who is close to him would be the best person to text and deal with the problem currently. Later, the major cause of the misunderstanding can be discussed, and you can arrive at the solution. Thank you.
