Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 38-year-old male, and I have been experiencing troubling symptoms for the past few months. I have been hearing ringing in my left ear, and some days, I do not hear any sound. My ear is bulky and full. I have never had these symptoms before, and I am apprehensive. Please help me understand what is causing these symptoms and provide information on how to manage and treat them. What steps can I take to find relief and improve my quality of life?

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

There could be several reasons (ranging from simple accumulation of wax in the ear canal to a deficit in your neural pathway) responsible for your symptoms. A thorough stepwise assessment will be required to determine the cause and treat the problem accordingly. Estimation is done in the following manner:

1. Clinical examination and tuning fork tests.

2. Audiological evaluation by pure tone audiometry or BERA (brain-evoked response audiometry), if required.

3. MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) of the brain to assess the structural integrity of the vestibulocochlear unit and its connecting area to the brain.

4. Assess the tinnitus handicap index to assess the nature of the tinnitus(ringing sound) and its impact on your quality of life.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
