Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I fell from my bicycle on a downhill and got a skin rash. I heard that it is best to let it in the air out unless it oozes fluid. What is your suggestion?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. Yes, it is better to avoid using bandages on it as of now. But looking at the abrasion, (attachment removed to protect patient identity), it would be better if you put some topical antibiotics regularly twice a day, after cleaning with normal soap and water. Avoid using anything like Dettol or Savlon or any other alcohol-based cleanser as it might cause irritant contact dermatitis. I also suggest you take some anti-inflammatory medicine and a short course of antibiotics. You can take tablet Cefadroxil 500 mg twice a day for five days, tablet Paracetamol 500 mg twice to thrice a day, and apply Mupirocin cream locally twice a day. Wash the area with normal soap and water and apply the cream after drying it. Keep applying the cream for seven to ten days. Take care.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

What is the average healing time of a large wound?

Hi.

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It usually takes around 10 to 14 days to get completely healed. But some residual pigmentation remains initially which usually gets subsided after few days.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
