HomeAnswersDentistryroot canal failureI have an infection in my RC-treated tooth. What to do?

Is a re-RCT or an extraction advised in a young patient with a failed root canal?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I underwent dental treatment twice, which resulted in incomplete fillings and infection near and around the bones. At first, the doctor said the tooth might decay and should be extracted in time because it affects branching nerves and teeth. Besides that, as I was younger, the doctor advised me to take a chance and proceed with it again as the chances might be good. Should I proceed with the probable re-root canal or wait for some time for the tooth to be extracted?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I suggest you take a radiograph and consult me for further details. Also, take an orthopantomogram to verify the position of the nerves. Then do take antibiotics and pain killers for three days. Then continue with the procedure. If it cannot be re-treated with RCT (root canal therapy), then go for extraction after taking pre- antibiotics.

Thank you. Have a nice day.
