Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have epilepsy from my childhood. I have anxiety, depression, and anger issues. Lately, I have been on Abilify, Divalproex, Lamotrigine, and Zoloft. I have been recently diagnosed with schizophrenia and do not know what to do about it, could you help me get on track?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You are already on an effective combination of medication to manage your underlying diagnoses. As you may know, you are on an antipsychotic ( Abilify), anticonvulsants (which are also mood stabilizers- Divalproex and Lamotrigine) and an antidepressant (Zoloft). Have regular follow-ups with your doctor so that dosage can be reviewed as needed. Do not stop any medication without guidance. If you experience any side effects, discuss with your doctor.

In addition to medication, it is essential to have therapy and psycho-social support to help in your continuing recovery. Have you had any psychological treatment like CBT? CBT can be helpful in anxiety, depression, and schizophrenia as well. Have regular contacts with your trusted family and friends. It is essential to have ongoing social get-togethers and avoid social isolation. If you are in education or at work, try to make appropriate changes to manage your workload.

Learn to manage stressors in your life. Apart from therapy, follow self-help strategies which can help you get back on track gradually. Ensure you are following the basics like eating healthily, having a good sleep routine, and regular exercise. Try to keep yourself optimally active.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
