When would be the best time of the day to take psychiatric pills?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Could you please advise me on my medication routine questions? I have a few questions regarding when would be the best time of the day to take psychiatric pills. I had schizophrenia, which was diagnosed a couple of years ago, and I was hospitalized. I did shock therapy and also took injections. I had then changed to only take medications like Aripiprazole (Abilify) because my periods were irregular and there was something stuck in my breast as well. I also gained lots of weight. Something very strange happened to me when taking this pill every day. Frequently, I had the zoning out side effects, I could not focus and or control my focus but forced myself to dig into some patterns or shapes. I wonder if you can give me some suggestions? Or is there the best time of the day to take this pill that does not cause weight gain? Thanks for your time reading my inquiries. I hope to get your bits of advice soon.

Hello,

Welcome to iclinq.com.

I understand your concern. The best time to take Aripiprazole is at night after dinner. There are not many side effects of this medicine. If you have side effects such as weight gain and period irregularity then you need to change it to a female-friendly antipsychotic medicine named Ziprasidone 20 or 40 mg according to your problem. You need to start physical exercise at least 45 minutes a day and take complete sleep at night. as if sleep gets disturbed then your problem may reoccur.

Thank you.
