Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I recently turned 21, and I am concerned I am starting to become bald. My mother's father went bald in his 50s, her brother went bald in his 20s, and her other brother is now balding in his 40s. I am worried I am following this pattern. I have noticed bald spots on my head for over a year now, and I fear it is getting worse. It is easiest to see when my hair is wet but can be slightly visible when not. I wear a headset every day, which could be causing stress on my hair. Also, for the past few years, I have washed my hair with shampoo every single day, which I have now learned is something you are not supposed to do. I really want to avoid going bald and need all the help I can get. I have heard of Minoxidil; however, I am nervous about using that. I believe that it starts to shed all your hair, and if you stop taking the product, all your hair will start to fall out again. Rosemary oil is another option; however, I do not know much about it. I am submitting pictures along with this. I need all the help I can get. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understood your concern. Based on the information provided, it appears that you are experiencing seborrheic capitis with P. sicca (Pityriasis sicca), which is a type of dandruff. To address this issue,I suggest you to follow a few instructions mentioned below,:

  1. Wash your scalp with Anaboom shampoo (Zinc pyrithione, Amodimethicone, Bromelain, Cetyl alcohol, Panthenol.) twice a week for a duration of six weeks.

  2. Try to avoid stress, anxiety, and worries, as they can potentially worsen the condition.

  3. Apply Ketoconazole (antifungal) lotion to the affected areas in the evening for a period of ten days.

  4. Refrain from scratching and rubbing the lesions to prevent further irritation.

  5. Keep your nails short to minimize any damage caused by scratching.

It would be helpful to provide any additional details or answer about any previous diagnosis made by a doctor for further understanding and guidance. Kindly consult a specialist, talk with them, and take the medications with their consent.

Please follow the above instructions, and if you have any further concerns or questions, feel free to ask. Take care.

Thanks and regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the earlier response.

I have no diagnosis from any doctor. I have not noticed any itchiness at all. Is the seborrheic capitis causing hair loss? Will doing all of the above-mentioned instructions help regrow my hair and stop the balding? Also, should I use rosemary oil to benefit my hair? Kindly answer.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It is pityriasis capitis (which is a common condition) that occurs after 20 years of age. The cause is excessive sebum secretion due to the influence of hormones (Malassezia. furfur species, which is a normal commensal of skin flora) or reactive hyperplasia of the epidermis. Daily shampooing is necessary. Avoid harsh shampoos loaded with chemicals. Also, avoid frequent washing of the head and prolonged hot shower baths. Stay hydrated and avoid activities that cause sweating. It is recommended to stop taking anti-depressant pills. Ensure that your diet is rich in Vitamin E. I hope this has helped you out.

Thanks and regards.
