Do Ayurvedic tablets affect the sperm count?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I underwent a semen analysis today, and the results showed severe oligospermia with a sperm concentration of 1 million per 1 mL. The total sample was 2 mL. I have had stomach issues for the past two days. I have passed stools three to four times over the past two days. I take alternative medicines for the same. Can these tablets affect my semen analysis report? Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

I checked your report (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). The reports state that you have low sperm concentration. There are many reasons for low concentration. I have listed them below. Varicocele occurs due to the swelling of veins in the testicle or scrotum. It can be diagnosed by doing an ultrasound. Infection occurs due to sexually transmitted diseases or non-sexually transmitted diseases causing epididymitis or orchitis. It can be diagnosed by ultrasound scrotum, urine test, and CBC (complete blood count).

Ejaculation problems include retrograde ejaculation, lack of ejaculation due to diabetes, spinal injuries, and bladder, prostate, or urethra surgery, anti-sperm antibodies, benign or malignant growth blocks the release of sperm, undescended testicles can be diagnosed by ultrasound scrotum, hormonal imbalances, exposure to heavy metals, drugs, and overheating of the scrotum, alcohol, and smoking can also cause it. I suggest you take the tablet of a combination of levocarnitine, coenzyme Q10, Zinc, lycopene, and astaxanthin twice daily after food. Ashwagandha tablets will not reduce the count. Consult a specialist doctor, discuss with them, and take medications with their consent.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

Should I take the test again after some days for sperm concentration? Will I be able to become a father? Should I ask my partner to undergo a fertility test to have an overall picture?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I suggest you recheck your semen sample after ten days. You can also check your partner's fertility status. I suggest she consult a gynecologist or fertility specialist.

I hope this helps.
