Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am having cold and severe pain in the upper part of my palate. The pain is worse at night. I used to get this once or twice a year, but this time it is so severe. My current medication includes, Amoxicillin 500 mg thrice a day and Sodium diclofenac 50 mg. I have taken the tablets for three days, but still I have pain. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I saw your image and it looks normal (attachment removed to protect patient identity). Your history and image suggest me that you may be having sinusitis leading to pain in the palate. You need to continue the antibiotic being taken. I suggest the following medicines. Consult your doctor, discuss with him or her and take the medicine with consent. Tablet Levocetirizine 10 mg once daily at night for five days. Tablet Paracetamol 500 mg three times daily. Otrivin nasal drops (Xylometazoline) 3 drops thrice daily for three days. Please review back in 48 hours, if the situation does not improve.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Please suggest some medicine to reduce the pain.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

For pain, the above medicines will surely help as they reduce the congestion in sinusitis, which will treat the cause of pain. Also, I suggest tablet Paracetamol 1 g three times daily. If not sufficient, then Diclofenac 50 mg twice daily, which you already have. It should be sufficient. If still you have pain, then you will need Tramadol. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her and take the medicine with consent. But, as my experience says, you will not need more than those two drugs for pain. Do take other medicines I suggest as they will also help in decreasing pain.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
