Hi doctor,

I am a 20-year-old male without a history of autoimmune disease in my family. But I have had dry eyes and a dry mouth for four months and I am unable to find the cause. I do not have dry eyes and mouth every day and it does not occur together. Recently, I also have had joint pain while walking. I am suspicious of Sjogren's syndrome. My blood test results are negative for ANA, SSA, SSB, C-reactive protein, and ESR. Is there anything that causes these symptoms?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The provided information is not sufficient to establish a definite diagnosis. Kindly give some additional information regarding dry eyes and dry mouth. Please mention whether you experienced dry mouth daily for more than three months. Please mention whether you had any recurrent swelling of salivary glands. Please mention whether you drink liquids frequently to swallow dry food. Please mention whether you have any gum issues and ocular symptoms daily. Please mention you had dry eyes persistently for more than three months. Please mention whether you have a recurrent sensation of sand or gravel in your eyes. Please mention whether you use tear substitutes more than three times a day. In some cases, ANA (anti-nuclear antibody) shows negative results even though there is presence of Sjogren's syndrome. You need to do investigations to rule out parotitis. Doing an ultrasound helps in this case. But there are some other conditions that cause dryness and you have a low likely chance to have Sjogren's syndrome.
