Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am concerned about my aunt’s health issues. She is now 57 years old and has developed skin rashes, which look red and feel itchy and painful. She also feels tired and has a mild fever. She has been under Telmisartan medication for the past eight years and is taking it to regularize her blood pressure. What could be the reason for such symptoms? Does she require immediate medical care? Is this something severe? What can be done to obtain immediate relief? Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

We are elated to have you onboard at icliniq.

I have gone through the details provided from your end and I do understand your concern. From the details provided, her condition seems to be that of herpes zoster. They usually appear as red clusters of rashes with small bumpy areas that resemble blisters. It will be itchy and painful. These are viral infections that usually heal by themself but for faster recovery, antiviral oral medications and creams are needed to obtain relief from the symptoms. Symptoms also include fever, chills, and tiredness.

Herpes zoster occurs due to the triggering of a dormant virus in nerves as a result of a previous chickenpox infection. Triggers like fever, stress, sleeplessness, and direct exposure to infected individuals are also causes for the same. Isolation is also important to prevent transmission of infection. There is nothing to worry about since they are treatable. However, before a confirmatory diagnosis, I would advise you to attach a clear image of the affected area to assess the condition better. For close examination and testing purposes, I suggest she do a direct consultation with the physician.

I hope this helps. I wish your aunt a good health.

Thank you.
