Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had been diagnosed with solar retinopathy. I went for an eye exam and the OCT results came up great. However, I am worried about the prevalence of it popping up when I least expect it. The retina looks fine. Should I take heart in knowing that I am fine or be vigilant and continue to go back and get the exams and OCTs completed? Also, my eyes are crazy dry and I need to use drops. But, that may be from staying up all night researching this consistently.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

If the OCT (optical coherence tomography) and retina are fine, then there is no issue as a long-term effect is less likely. Also, an immediate effect is seen and the layers, particularly the photoreceptor layer is affected. In some percentage of patients, I have seen a long-term effect in terms of difficulty in fine vision. For dry eyes, I suggest using eye drops Systane Ultra (Polyethylene Glycol) three to four times a day and also an antioxidant which will help in strengthening of the cells such as tablet Novoret (Lutein and Omega-3 fatty acids) once a day after meals for three months and then stop.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
