Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Does taking close selfies on your phone with the flash on, cause any damage to the eyes, if done occasionally?

Answered by Dr. Priyanka

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

No, it will not cause any damage if done occasionally. It is important to know what kind of light will damage the cells, especially the UV rays and infrared rays. These rays will damage the light-sensitive cells of the retina and will cause damage to the vision which is irreversible. For example, if one sees a solar eclipse, the direct sun for some time, laser pointer lights, or yes, sometimes the computer screen as well. All these are harmful. The flash of the mobile phone camera will cause harm to you if used constantly for a long period and consecutively. But, occasionally you can do it. Also, I suggest you take the tablet Novoret (Zeaxanthin, Lutein, and omega-3 fatty acids) once a day after meals for a month which will strengthen the cells of the retina.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
