This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have had sticky mucus in my throat or sinus for over two years. And now, I have headaches and breathing problems all the time. Also, my nose is always dry. However, I underwent septoplasty last year. What to do? Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern. You have got sinusitis. You need to get an X-ray and CT (computed tomography) scan of the sinuses. Kindly follow up after five days with the X-ray PNS (paranasal sinus) and CT scan report.

The Probable causes

Allergy, a bacterial or fungal infection.

Investigations to be done

X-ray PNS (water's view) and CT PNS.

Differential diagnosis

Sinusitis or GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease).

Probable diagnosis

Chronic rhinosinusitis.

Treatment plan

I suggest you take the tablets Augmentin (Amoxicillin and Clavulanate) 625 mg and Montek (Montelukast and Levocetirizine) LC twice daily for five days. Use Avamys (Fluticasone Furoate) nasal spray for two puffs two times a day. Take the tablet Rablet D (Domperidone and Rabeprazole) once daily on an empty stomach. Take the tablet Ibuprofen (a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) twice daily for five days. Kindly consult a specialist, talk with them and take the medicines with their consent.

Preventive measures

Avoid excessive blowing of the nose and sneezing. And avoid smoking and alcohol.
