Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I always have pain in my throat. Doctors suggested different types of antibiotics, such as Augmentin 625, Ceftum 500 mg, and Cefix 200 mg. But not much improvement. On my last visit, the doctor diagnosed me with chronic pharyngitis. It can be due to allergy or acid reflux.
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
What sort of pain is it? Is it present only while swallowing? Is it getting relieved when you do anything? Do you smoke? Is there any change in voice? Do you feel anything stuck down the throat?
In your pictures, I cannot find any active infection. It was unnecessary to take all those strong antibiotics. Most likely, you have a reflux laryngo pharyngitis that needs antihistamines, and proton pump inhibitors for a long term, say one to two months. You will need to take some precautions and lifestyle changes as well.
Do revert with more information. Once a decisive diagnosis is made, I can suggest the medicines to you.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
My pain is a kind of irritation, and it hurts sometimes. Yes, I have pain while swallowing. The pain is permanent, and it comes and goes. I do not smoke. I feel something has stuck in my throat, and my voice also gets heavier sometimes.
Please suggest medicine.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
You have reflux. Take the following medicines.
Avoid spicy, oily foods, citrus, and cold foods. Avoid dust and smoke pollution. Do not drink a lot of water immediately after a meal, and do not lie down immediately after a meal. Do not fast. Eat timely food. Increase the frequency of having food but reduce the quantity each time.
Follow the above measures and revert after two weeks. You will need a review and further medicines. Depending on your progress, we will have to taper the medicine but not stop it fully.
I hope this helps.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
I forgot to mention that for most of the day, I have a very mild runny nose and pressure in my ears, like plane pressure. And very mild chills are associated with it.
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Ignore the temperature part for now. The nasal issue will be taken care of by the nasal spray and the tablets I mentioned in the previous reply. In the pictures shared by you (attachment removed to protect patient identity), I could see a thick post-nasal drip and understood you have nasal symptoms. That is why I included the medicines for those as well.
Nasal issues and reflux are related, and both go hand in hand. We need to address both to give a complete solution. The ear pressure is also due to rhinitis. Do not do the Valsalva maneuver until your treatment is complete.
Do not take cold water or spicy oily foods. Take steam inhalations two times daily. If you feel feverish, take Paracetamol 650, and then you will be better.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for the reply.
I am taking medicine regularly and feeling a little better. But, after taking the medicine, I have observed a little body and joint ache.
Kindly suggest.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
The medicines will not cause body pain and joint ache. I suggest you take Paracetamol when you have body pain. Take rest for a couple of days. Drink warm water. Follow all the precautions mentioned earlier. Reflux and rhinitis take some time to get alright. You will have to be patient. Do revert back to us after a week before you stop the medicines.
I hope this helps.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Today, I am completing the course. Following are my observations:
I would appreciate further advice.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
You have found 85 percent improvement in the pain, right? 98.9 degree Fahrenheit is not a fever. It is slightly above normal. You can ignore it. Regarding the chills, can you elaborate? Continue the medicines for another two weeks. When you have the chills, take a Paracetamol. Your chills need to be discussed further. Based on the thermometer reading, I cannot say it is a fever.

Thank you for consulting me.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you again for your time; I greatly appreciate it.
I am feeling normal. No issues with my throat. No fever and no chills.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Now that you are feeling normal, follow these steps. Continue the medicines every alternate day, that is thrice a week. Do this for two weeks and then stop all medication. Follow general precautions for acidity or allergy:
Let me know if there are any issues after two weeks. Otherwise, you can stop the medicines and just follow the precautions.
