Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am ten weeks pregnant, and I have just started spotting. I do not have any cramps or pain. Should I go to the emergency room?

Answered by Dr. Natasha Bansal

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your concern in detail and will surely help you out. You should definitely visit the emergency room in case of spotting as it can be due to abortion or a low-lying placenta. If the condition is not managed on time, you might experience pain and bleeding, which is not good for the fetus. In the hospital, they will examine you, and I suggest you get an ultrasound done. The treatment for this condition is usually bed rest and Progesterone support. I suggest you start taking the tablet Duphaston (Dyhydrogesterone) 40 mg once followed by 10 mg twice daily, and an injection Maintane (Hydroxyprogesterone 500 mg) is to be given intramuscularly. This will control the spotting and will help in maintaining the pregnancy.

Thank you.
