How is a sprained ankle managed?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I sprained my ankle five hours ago. It swallowed and hurts. I treated it with fasted gel and ice. I need to recover faster. Should I do something else? Kindly guide.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern. Do not apply any ointment, just apply ice twice daily for five more days. You need to take the following medicines,

1. Tablet. Ibuprofen (Hypromellose, Sodium Starch Glycollate) 400 mg twice a day for 10 days after food.

2. Tablet. Rabeprazole (Rabeprazole Sodium) 20 mg twice a day for 10 days before food.

3. Tablet. Shelcal (Cholecalciferol) 500 mg twice a day for 30 days before food.

4. Tablet. Vitamin D 60 K units, once daily for ten days, then once a month for 11 months. Take these tablets only if you are not allergic to them. Do not take these tablets if you have bronchial asthma.

You need to wear an air cast ankle stirrup brace- this will keep it steady and allow recovery faster. I hope I have cleared all your doubts.

Thank you.
