Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 32-year-old male who recently lost my job, and the stress associated with it is taking a toll on my mental health. I feel constantly stressed and even experience symptoms of depression. Can you offer guidance on how to manage my mental health during such challenging times? Kindly suggest strategies to relieve my stress and depression. Are there any specific lifestyle changes, therapies, or exercises that could actually help improve my mental health? Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I appreciate the confidence that you place in me for your healthcare consultation.

I can understand your situation and your problem. I am sorry to hear about your job. You should try to follow the below guidelines to deal with your stress and cope with this challenging time.

  1. You should exercise daily for 30 to 45 minutes, such as going for a walk.

  2. You should practice meditation for 20 minutes daily. Just sit in one place in a comfortable position and try to concentrate on your normal breathing. Do not stop or force yourself to stop your thoughts; Just let it be.

  3. You should eat healthy, home-cooked foods and avoid junk foods.

  4. You must drink enough water.

  5. You should spend quality time with friends and family members daily.

  6. You should spend time doing creative hobbies like reading good books, writing journals, painting, drawing, and learning new skills, language, or musical instruments.

  7. You should aim for seven to eight hours of sleep daily.

  8. You must avoid tobacco usage, alcohol consumption, or any type of substance abuse.

Live your life. Do not just spend it. Be bold and confident. If you still have symptoms that persist after following the above-mentioned advice for four to six weeks, then you need to start medications for a short duration.

I wish you good health.

Please let me know if you want any further help.

Thank you.
