Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 21 years old and I stutter while speaking. When I was in school, I suffered from bullying from my friends in class for about two years, and my psychological state was very bad. I suffered from depression and fear, but I did not remember that I was stuttering. After that, my condition improved and became better. After about three or four years, I also suffered from bullying from students at school to the point that I sometimes cried in some situations. During these years in middle school, symptoms of stuttering began to appear gradually until I was 16 years old. Here I have become a stuttering person. I would like to add a note that I do not stutter when I am alone. I forgot to add the symptom of my stuttering, which is repeating a word, and sometimes the word gets stuck in my mouth and I cannot pronounce it. Currently, I have not been able to find a doctor. Can I treat myself at home or in my social environment? Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern. Stuttering can be developmental (in most cases) as a child grows and learns to speak he or she stutters or acquires (in your case as inferred by the description provided by you). After severe emotional distress, stuttering can occur as in your case. Now coming to the second part of your question. This is usually part of depression or anxiety disorder which occurs due to severe stress that may be with you. To get rid of stuttering you have to get rid of underlying depression or anxiety. For that, you have to consult a psychiatrist but as you mentioned you have not been able to find a doctor you can get help from this platform. This will allow you to get yourself treated in your environment.
I hope this helps. Feel free to contact me in case of any other doubt.
Thank you.
