Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a red swollen spot on my gums just above my teeth. It has been there for a little over two weeks. Please help.

Answered by Dr. Naveen Thomas

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

It is a localized gingivitis that occurs primarily in females when their hormonal levels peak, like during pregnancy or other situations.

There is no need to worry. Just get your teeth cleaned by a dentist whenever possible.

1. Use warm salt water gargle twice daily for a week or two. You can use mouthwash too.

2. Applying a topical antibiotic gel over the area helps, like Chlorhexidine and Metronidazole gel.

It will heal in a couple of weeks.

Still, going to a local dentist for a check-up and cleaning teeth and gums to remove calculus and plaque first is advised.

I hope it helps.

Thank you and take care.
