Kindly suggest a safe liver supplement as I am already on Evion for last six months.

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Can you please suggest a safe liver supplement? I have been eating Evion tablet for the last six months. Initially, my bilirubin got high, but when I stopped drinking, it became normal after one month, but still, I feel my liver has become weak to digest things daily, especially the dairy products.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

There are no medicines or supplements that can support the liver. The liver does not need any help if it is healthy. Just avoid things that can damage the liver-like excessive alcohol. Difficulty in digesting dairy products may be due to lactose intolerance and has nothing to do with the liver. Milk contains lactose, which is a carbohydrate. To digest carbohydrates, our intestines produce an enzyme called lactose.

Some individuals produce very little, or no lactose and the lactose is not digested.Further downstream in the intestines, the lactose gets digested by the intestinal bacteria which results in the release of some gases as byproducts. This causes flatulence, bloating, and diarrhea. In such cases, avoid regular milk. You can use lactose-free milk. Some individuals can tolerate milk products like yogurt and cheese, which have low levels of lactose. Butter and ghee have zero lactose and will not give any problems. I hope this helps.
