Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My daughter is 7 months old and has passed watery stool four times today. She also has a mild cold and cough. She is taking water regularly. I have brought probiotics. What other medicines can be given? What is their dosage? Is she passing watery stools due to dehydration or teeth eruption?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query, and I can understand your concern.

Your daughter might be passing watery stools due to teething. However, you need to monitor her for any signs of dehydration. You need to continue breastfeeding her for adequate hydration. If she has started weaning breast milk, an ORS (Oral rehydration solution) solution can be given. I suggest you administer Zinc 2.5 ml once daily for 14 days. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with them, and take these medicines with their consent. The condition subsides on its own, and taking excess medication can be harmful. It is important to maintain adequate hydration.

I hope your concern was resolved.

Thanks and regards.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Should I give probiotics now? How long should I give probiotics? What medicines can I give for cold and cough?

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have read your query, and I can understand your concern.

Which probiotics do you have? For loose stools, probiotics are needed for chronic conditions extending for more than seven days. Loose stools during teething are a self-limiting condition and do not require treatment. In Infants, colds and coughs can develop due to nasal blocks. I suggest the following treatment: Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with them, and take these medicines with their consent.

  1. Administer one to two drops of Nasoclear nasal spray (Sodium Chloride) in each nostril three to four times for two days.

  2. In case of a runny nose, syrup Sinarest 1.5 ml (Chlorpheniramine maleate, Paracetamol, and Phenylephrine) twice a day for two days can be given.

  3. I also suggest you take 2.5 ml of Zinc syrup once daily for 14 days.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
