Do throbbing pain, and purplish-white spots in the extraction site indicate a dry socket?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I got a tooth extracted yesterday, and today I am experiencing throbbing uncomfortable pain; it seems to be getting worse, and Paracetamol is not helping. Also, I noticed a purple color with a few white bits in the extracted site. Is this normal, or is this a dry socket? Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

It is a dry socket that is caused due to disintegration of the clot. It is also associated with infection. I suggest you to take an X-ray and please contact your dentist for sedative dressing and update me on your drug allergy history so that I can provide you with immediate relief. Doing warm saline rinses for every 6 hours for the next five days would be helpful.

I hope you find it helpful.

Kind regards.
