HomeAnswersEndocrinologythyroid nodulesMy medical reports suggest I have a solid thyroid nodule and an enlarged neck lymph node. What should I do next?

Would a thyroid nodule be associated with a lymph node?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Most things are normal except for two observations in my report.

1. Well-defined solid lesion or size 7mmx5mmx5mm, with evidence of minimally raised peripheral vascularity, no evidence of any calcification changes within, suggestive of a solid nodule.

2. Evidence of an enlarged lymph node of 10mmx8mm on the left side of the neck suggests lymphadenopathy.

All other things are normal.

Can this lymph node be related to the thyroid nodule?

What should the next steps be?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I just read your query and the reports (attachments removed for patient's identity protection).

The thyroid nodule is less than 1 centimeter, so it must be followed by an ultrasound thyroid every 6 months. Less than 1 centimeter of thyroid nodules are considered mostly benign. Check your thyroid function test. Your lymph node is to be investigated by doing investigations for lung infection or Tuberculosis. Would need clinical assessment. The thyroid gland is normal otherwise.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I appreciate your response. I was scared to find both of these together.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your symptoms are from the lymph node, and your thyroid nodule was just detected incidentally.

So the cause is the lymph node. Wait for 4 weeks. If it resolves on ultrasound neck, then fine if not, go ahead and get a thorough checkup for lung infection and Tuberculosis.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
