Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

There is a redness beneath the chin. It has been there for a month but has expanded within two days. How to treat this?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. I looked over the image (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). Tinea barbae could be the causative factor. It is essentially a fungal infection of the beard. It appears due to sweating, climate changes, decreased immunity, and transmission from infected individuals. They cause itching, spread quickly, and grow in size, causing discomfort. I suggest applying Ketoconazole (Nizoral) cream 2 % twice daily for the affected area. Take tablet Fluconazole (Diflucan) 150 mg once a week for four weeks. It is recommended to take four tablets after dinner, one each week. Keep beard trimmed, avoid sweat stagnation, and avoid sharing belongings with infected persons and others. Also, avoid using the same razor frequently. Keep razor and trimmer clean to prevent recurrences. Tinea barbae can last for weeks or months. Therefore, be patient and consistent with the treatment.
