Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I got my tonsils removed four days ago. I wanted to know if it is okay to smoke one cigarette and some weed.

Hi,

Welcome to iciniq.com.

No, you should not. It is just four days and healing takes at least 15 days. The area where the tonsils were there has to regrow the mucus lining and the lining should start functioning normally after a few days of growing. If you smoke cigarettes or weed the smoke will directly get adsorbed on the raw area making it vulnerable to bleeding, infection, pain, edema, swelling, and impaired healing. Smoke and weed will deposit soot and carbon particles which will delay healing and act as a nidus for infection. I strongly ask you to desist from doing those two and eat and drink healthy foods for a month until you are completely fine. Take abundant fluids. Take all the medicines prescribed by the doctor and follow up with him as per his instructions. Do ping me if you need any support.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I should have framed the question differently. I know it is obviously not good but just one should be fine if I gargle with Bernadine right after? As the pain in my ears is too much.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

What medicines are you on? I will not give you a green signal for either of those till healing is complete. The raw area will absorb the smoke and harmful agents in cigarette faster than intact mucosa. as a result, you can have bleeding and more pain.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

The pain has reduced by 80 % since day one. I am taking Dinospar painkiller, Augmentin antibiotic, Nutrolin B and Betadine and Hydrogen peroxide gargles. Also, G6PD deficient.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Continue medicines. Do take painkillers till they have advised. Painkillers also function as anti-inflammatory medicines.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Also, when do you think I can eat chips and acidic food options? As I have been eating soft foods only.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Chips, fish, and foods with sharp corners or mixtures are best avoided for 15 days. At least for a week strictly. Acidic food for a fortnight. You can eat solid food. No need for strict soft food diet. You can have normal foods that you have at home.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
