Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My wisdom tooth is erupting and I have pain in my neck. I have got a headache, and my jaw aches. Is this normal, or should I go and get checked?
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
The age of eruption of wisdom teeth is from 17 to 21 years. Beyond that, if the wisdom tooth has not erupted, half erupted, or is painful, it is likely to be locked inside the jaw. Since they are the last ones to erupt, most of them do not get enough space to erupt and try anyways, which causes jaw pain, and sometimes the surrounding structures like the same side of the temple, ear, neck, and throat are also painful. This wisdom tooth is called an impacted tooth.
Please visit a nearby dentist and get an X-ray of your wisdom tooth taken to check whether there is enough space to erupt and erupt in the right direction. If the tooth is impacted and locked inside the jaw, it may not erupt. Ideally, complete removal of the impacted wisdom tooth will be suggested.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
