Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I got a deep cleaning a few days ago, and I got fillings in some of my teeth. One of the teeth that has a filling has started to hurt today. And it feels like it is going to fall out. I cannot contact my dentist as it is a holiday.

Please help.

Thanks.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

The pain can be due to cleaning, or even the filling gives you a feeling of mild sensitivity to pain, sometimes for a few days. We have to be worried only if it is continuous, severe, and prolonged. If it is manageable or mild, give it some time. Till then, do gargling with salt in lukewarm water. If the pain is moderate to severe, take Paracetamol 500 mg once, and if it works, let it be. But do not take it more. If still, severe unbearable pain is there, visit your dentist, and till then, you can take Aceclofenac 100 mg in the morning and night after food. If you have acidity, take Pantoprazole 40 mg once daily before food as this painkiller can aggravate acidity. Also, do not chew on that side until you feel better or visit your dentist. Kindly send me a picture to guide you properly. And also, if the filling falls, or based on your description, it could have been a temporary filling. So, if the pain is due to a deep cavity, the dentist will do the treatment accordingly. So, nothing is a significant emergency unless and until you have unmanageable pain, swelling, or fever. Do let me know if there are any other symptoms like swelling.

I hope this information will help.

Thanks.
