Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I was on tablet Imipramine for a year. Though it worked wonders for my depression, I could not get out of bed until 10 AM daily. So, I switched to tablet Amitriptyline three weeks ago to help me get up early in the morning. However, with tablet Amitriptyline use, I am gaining weight rapidly, my chest feels tight, it is hard to urinate, and my left leg is swollen. So, I thought of going back to using tablet Imipramine again. I started with a dose of 50 mg. However, I had side effects like muscle spasms. Hence, I took a dose of 100 mg last night. I was lethargic today. Currently, I am also on tablet Vyvanse and tablet Ativan. Kindly advise me on the dosage adjustment of my medicines.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. You have side effects of tablet Imipramine (Imipramine Hydrochloride) and tablet Amitriptyline. Are you cross-tapering under the guidance of a doctor? If you have an oversedation issue, you must stop or decrease the dose of the tablet Ativan (Lorazepam). Tablet Imipramine does not cause oversedation. I suggest you stop tablet Amitriptyline and go back to tablet Imipramine. You can consult a specialist doctor, talk to him or her, and then follow the dosage adjustments.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
