Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

The levels of my thyroid test are 11.524, HbA1c levels are 9.5, and cholesterol levels are 294. Kindly suggest if I require treatment.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

The blood test results are far from normal. The TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) and HbA1c levels are elevated, as are the cholesterol levels. Kindly answer the below-questions to guide you better.

  1. Is it possible to get a complete thyroid profile?
  2. Is there a family history of diabetes?
  3. Are you experiencing any of these symptoms- increased thirst, increased hunger, weight gain, fatigue, tiredness, etc?
  4. Have you been under long-term stress in the past year?

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I feel tired and thirsty and have attached my lab test results. There is no history of thyroid in my family. However, my mother is a diabetic patient. Kindly suggest.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I can understand your results.

Going through the reports (attachments have been removed to protect the patient's privacy) and the reported symptoms, it can be established that you do have diabetes and an almost hyperfunctioning thyroid as well.

At this point, it would be wise to start medications for the same.

  1. For diabetes, you could start a tablet of Metformin 500mg. Take one tablet every day.
  2. Get a blood test for HbA1c in about 12 weeks to see if the blood sugars have settled.
  3. For thyroid, I would not recommend starting any medications.
  4. For cholesterol, I would not recommend any medications at this point. But I would recommend lifestyle changes like improved physical activity and a healthy diet.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
