Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My TSH level was 5.45 mIU/L with normal T3 and T4, for which my doctor suggested Thyrox 12.5 mg half tablet. After that, my TSH was normal at 4.23 mIU/L, but the doctor said to continue the same dose of Thyrox now. My TSH has dropped to 0.325 mIU/L. What should I do? Currently, I am suffering from the issue of hair thinning. I am using Spironolactone for hair fall. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

If your free T4 was normal and only TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) was mildly elevated, in my opinion, if you are not planning for pregnancy, there is no need to start Thyroxine tablets. It is better to stop Thyroxine and repeat your TSH with free T4 after six weeks and also check TPO (thyroid peroxidase) antibodies. If everything is normal, just repeat TSH after six months and let me know. So, in summary, stop Thyroxine now and repeat tests after six weeks.

Hope this addresses your query.

Thank you.
