Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had my menstruation ten days back and supposed to ovulate tomorrow but I had sex with my husband yesterday after taking Fluconazole (because I was having a burning sensation after urinating and sex at my vaginal area). Would taking Fluconazole have hindered my ability to conceive yesterday? I am trying to conceive. I took Genevin in the past, which was a wrong prescription out of assumption.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

According to many researchers, Fluconazole 150 mg single dose is not too harmful to pregnancy but it is better to avoid it. The drug is antifungal if you have taken it and had sex no particular action on sex actually and on sperm and its way to cover path inside the female body. But if pregnancy happens, then you should not have Fluconazole as medication so no more tablets till you confirm you are pregnant or not. If no pregnancy then only you take this tablet. Otherwise better to have Canesten (Clotrimazole) pessary vaginally on alternate nights for two nights. The infection will come out vaginally. Fluconazole should not interfere in conception actually.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
