Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I suffer from a cough, irritation in the throat, and mild pain. I feel feverish but do not have an actual fever. Temperature variation is a problem where I live, and I travel around 50 km daily by bus. I am also a smoker. I usually get into this trouble at least twice a year during seasonal changes. Earlier, I was prescribed to take Azithromycin, Levocet, and Paracetamol. Should I follow the same prescription? I cannot afford to be resting for a few days. I teach at a college, and we have examinations going on. A cough is not severe, but it would be good to relieve it. Is there any cough candy? I am already making some plans to quit smoking. Apart from quitting smoking, what lifestyle changes or long-term medication can I use to avoid these troubles?

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

It is again an episode of upper respiratory tract infection. The prescription would be the same. You first try azithromycin once a day for five days. If it does not respond, then I suggest Amoxicillin. I also suggest betadine gargles and syrup. Alex (Dextromethorphan, Guaifenesin, and Phenylephrine) should be two tablespoons whenever needed. Please consult your doctor, discuss this with them, and take the medicine with consent. It would help if you were careful regarding cold weather and food items because whenever one consumes cold items or cold air goes inside, there is a multiplication or growth of microorganisms leading to infection and symptoms. So, avoid this thing. Also, smoking hampers local immunity, so that must be stopped. You must be getting some symptoms like throat congestion and irritation. At this stage, you should use betadine gargles to kill those excess microorganisms in the throat before setting an infection.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
