Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I was diagnosed with a mild UTI last month. The doctor did not say what caused it but I had sex with my partner two weeks before the consultation. Within that week, my urethra was itchy, the head was kind of painful when I squeezed it and I got a discharge. A urinalysis test came and it was normal, but the pus cell range was 2 to 5 so he prescribed me a medicine called ciprofloxacin. After a week, the urethra is not itchy anymore and I did not get any discharge but the head, when I squeeze it, is kind of painful. In the first week of this month, my girl and I met again and I have been discharged for three days now but my urethra is not itchy. What could be the cause? Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and can understand your concern. Kindly share a picture of the affected area for better suggestions. If there was unprotected sex - one needs to think of sexually transmitted infection. I suggest the following tests:

• TPHA (Treponema pallidum hemagglutination) test.

• HPV (human papillomavirus) DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test.

• Herpes simplex virus (HSV1 and 2) IgG (immunoglobulin G) test.

• Herpes simplex virus (HSV1 and 2) IgG (immunoglobulin M) serum test.

• Chlamydia trachomatis IgG.

• HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) 1 and 2 antibodies screening test.

• HbSAg (Hepatitis B surface antigen test) and complete urine analysis.

If not, it can be a simple bacterial infection so check for urine culture sensitivity. If there is itching, you need to think of a fungal infection. You can use ointment Candid B (Clotrimazole and Beclomethasone) for local application and for itching – tablet Cetzine(Cetirizine) once a night. Make sure you wash your genitalia twice a day morning and night and use normal water, no cold/ hot water. Avoid using heavy pH soap. I hope this helps you.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
