Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had unprotected sex so the next day I took the emergency contraceptive pill. Now I have been having a brownish discharge with a foul smell. What could be the reason? Could it be due to the pills?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I understand your concern. It could be withdrawal bleeding as i-pills are emergency contraceptive pills and every individual body is affected differently by this. Withdrawal bleeding occurs within 1 to 2 weeks after taking the pill. I suggest you to follow a few instructions mentioned below.

  1. Have a high vaginal swab.
  2. Have a healthy diet, daily walks, exercise, and recreational activities.
  3. Take tablet Doxycycline 100 mg 12 hourly and tablet Metronidazole 400 mg 8 hourly for 7 days.
  4. After taking i-pill, withdrawal bleeding cycles become irregular for some time and then get normal as externally induced hormones side effects finish.

Kindly consult a specialist, talk to them, and take medications with their consent.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
