Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am a 20-year-old woman. Today morning, when I woke up, I had an intense itching inside my vagina. I was unable to resist it and scratched it with my fingers inside. Now I am having a burning sensation in my vagina. The burning got reduced after I took a bath. But it is still burning very intensely. I have got my periods a few days back. I do not have periods now. I have never faced this issue. Is it something serious?
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
The most common cause of vaginal itching is due to a fungal infection. It usually gets reddish and irritated in and around the vagina. Sometimes a little white fluid is present. Often, it does not present with a foul smell. For this, there are several treatment options available. You can use Clotrimazole 2 % cream over the affected area daily for three days. You can also use Miconazole 4 % cream daily for three days.
For the pain due to scratching, you can take a painkiller such as Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen and EMLA (Lidocaine with Prilocaine) cream. Apply it to the affected area for every four to six hours. Be careful of the scratches for two to three days. Maintain good hygiene with soap and water. Avoid having sex as you have scratches. It can increase the infection rate.
