I am stressed and worried because my vagina lets out air almost like a fart. What to do?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I gave birth to a 7 lbs baby boy through C-section. I had a small cut and it was stitched and healed. It has been four months now. My vagina seems to have a fart. It happens during day time. But now it comes at night too. I am stressed and worried. What can be done?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. First of all, it is important to know that gas from the vagina is referred to as a queefing or vaginal fart. It is not pathology because the vagina holds air and during rigorous act or coitus or due to strenuous work or exercise, it passes out with a sound just similar to fart as you had mentioned. It does not present with a smell. It is unlikely to be a fistula. Nothing can be done to prevent it. Some positional changes can help you. Avoid having more of butt up in air positions during work as well as while doing exercise or sex.

The Probable causes

You can have physiological cause due to a roomy vagina.

Probable diagnosis

You seem to have a vaginal fart.

Preventive measures

Have a reassurance.

Regarding follow up

Have a follow-up at any time.
