Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My 10 months old son got a fever since last night. It has been 24 hours and his fever is between 100 and 102 degrees Fahrenheit. He has no other symptom till now. We are giving him Paracetamol drops. What can we do for him? The doctor suggested Meftal-P. Is it fine to give for 10 months old baby?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Paracetamol drops are fine. Meftal-P (Mefenamic acid) is a group of drug NSAID which is not first class drug given to babies under 1-year-old. First priority is Paracetamol or Acetaminophen. The reason is NSAID causes closure of the vessel in hearing in the fetal phase. So until the baby grows up, NSAID is not preferred. As fever is high grade, sponge him with a wet towel. This would decrease temperature and then blood circulation will be normal and Paracetamol will reach tissues and work. Watch for other signs like a cough, flu, crying (abdominal pain), and diarrhea. Follow up after three days. Adequate fluid and breastfeed if given. Thank you and take care. Regards.
