Can I have low vitamin C levels despite taking supplements?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had my vitamin C levels checked in the past two months. Both times, the test results showed below normal values. I am taking liposomal vitamin C supplements that have a bioavailability of 98 %. What is the reason for the low levels despite taking supplements? Also, can you kindly suggest ways to increase my vitamin C levels?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern and would be happy to help.

Vitamin C deficiency can cause symptoms like lassitude and scurvy. The best way to get vitamin C is through your diet. Fresh (organic) fruits and vegetables contain flavonoids that work synergistically to support the utilization of this vital nutrient. The daily requirement of vitamin C is 30 to 10000 mcg (micrograms). Do you have any symptoms like scurvy or delayed wound healing?

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
