What causes weakness and itching after sex?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

After having intercourse, I experienced some changes in my body. I became extremely weak and had a delay for a few seconds while urinating. In addition, I had itchiness all over my body, particularly on my face and head, and even a sore throat and headaches.

Please help me.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern.

The symptoms you describe,

  1. Generalized weakness.

  2. Brief delay in passing urine.

  3. Itching over the body (especially the face and scalp).

  4. Mild sore throat.

  5. Reduced concentration.

  6. Headache after sexual activity.

They could be caused by several factors, such as anxiety, allergic reactions, temporary responses of the autonomic nervous system post-ejaculation, and infection.

In case there had been unprotected sexual intercourse, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) must be ruled out. For that, you have to do the following tests.

  1. Treponema pallidum hemagglutination assay (TPHA) for syphilis.

  2. Herpes simplex virus type 1 and Herpes simplex virus type 2 nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) or reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) (do not do Herpes simplex virus immunoglobulin G).

  3. Urine polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

  4. Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) fourth-generation antigen/antibody test.

  5. Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg).

  6. Urine routine examination with culture and sensitivity.

  7. Complete blood count (CBC) with erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR).

If there was no unprotected exposure, the symptoms are more likely due to a local skin reaction, mild infection, or hypersensitivity.

If the area appears suggestive of a bacterial infection, you may apply T-Bact (Mupirocin) ointment locally twice daily and take Doxycycline 100 mg twice daily for five days after food.

If there is significant itching, suggesting a fungal or allergic component, you may apply Candid-B (Beclometasone and Clotrimazole) ointment locally twice daily and take Cetirizine, one tablet, at night for itching.

I hope I have answered your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.
