How can a patient with a history of pulmonary tuberculosis and an allergy to polyline grains gain weight?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have not gained weight in the last six to eight years. Eight years back, I had a medical history of pulmonary tuberculosis and a collapse of the lower left lobe of the lungs. I have been under anti-tubercular drugs and breastfeeding for two months. I am allergic to polyline grain and Oflox. What could be the reason for not gaining weight? Kindly help by suggesting me a solution.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

First of all, I would like to know a few details regarding your health condition-

1. Do you have any symptoms such as cough, chest pain, or breathing difficulty?

2. Do you have any associated fever?

3. Have you undergone any thyroid function tests?

Kindly reply to the above-asked questions so that I can guide you better.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

I do not have a cough, chest pain, or breathing difficulties, but sometimes I get tired and can feel my heartbeat. I had done my thyroid tests three to four years back, which was normal then. But I do not have the reports now. I have not undergone any tests recently.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

1. Is it possible for you to do a thyroid function test and chest X-ray?

2. May I know your diet and occupation?

Please reply to me with the above-asked questions so that I can guide you better.

Wish you good health.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

I have taken an X-ray a month back, and I do not have the X-ray film. I used to eat two chapatis (flat bread) for breakfast, three chapatis for lunch, and two chappatis with curry for dinner. I do not experience much hunger these days. At times I feel too hungry, and if I start eating, I would be able to eat only two chapatis, and not more than that. I am a staff nurse by profession.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

No need to worry as you do not have any associated symptoms. Some people do not gain weight, and it is normal. An important thing to notice is weight loss. I hope you do not have any weight loss.

Thank you.
