Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Medical history symptoms:

  1. It starts with coughing when lying down and progresses to heartburn due to acidity.

  2. Occasional severe acid reflux leads to vomiting until the stomach is empty.

  3. Subsequently, wheezing sets in, especially after vomiting, impacting lying down but not breathing while sitting up.

  4. Relief is achieved with antacids and hot compresses on the chest, taking a few hours.

  5. Betnelan (steroid) is used for quick relief, allowing sleep within 30 minutes, but concerns about its long-term use have arisen.

Previous history of the condition:

  1. Onset: Around five years ago, triggered by dust and cold winters.

  2. Experienced a severe asthma-like attack necessitating nebulization in the hospital at night.

  3. Initial treatment: Prescribed an asthma pump by one doctor and Betnelan by another, along with advice to avoid bike riding in cold weather.

  4. Successful management for two years, but weight gain, stress, and irregular diet led to increased acidity occurrences.

Current Status:

  1. Frequent acidity-induced wheezing, coughing, and vomiting during the night, exacerbated by lying down and more prominent in winter.

  2. Betnelan is being used to mitigate attacks, but concerns about its regular usage have surfaced.

  3. Overweight, seeking to improve dietary habits and manage stress levels. Kindly help.

Thank you.
